I don't do posts like this very often... But today is worth it.
3 years ago when Electra Heart came out, I suffered a vocal injury. I went on to struggle with it for two years. My voice ached continuously, whether I was singing or just talking, to the point where I could barely go for a coffee with a friend. Towards the end of 2013 I felt really desperate about it. I'd been to see some of the best ENT specialists in the world and they couldn't find a solution. (Surgery wasn't one of them).
I began working with a singing teacher named Jo Thompson after Electra Heart ended. I worked extremely hard to heal my voice. It took over a year and was one of the hardest and best things I've ever done. She's written an amazing book which is so, SO helpful if you are starting to sing, or if you're singer already. Your vocal health is THE most important thing and nothing is worth compromising it for - shows, money, managers or labels.
Hope this helps some people.
