Irrespective of whatever argument you believe about the TPP trade agreement, One thing is certain: free trade agreements have contributed to widespread income inequality, diminishing worker's rights, financial deregulation and environmental degradation. Anytime corporations and their interests are given equal footing with governments in disputes, we are further elevating unruly capitalism against our civic rights. Now that the TPP has been signed by trade ministers of 12 countries we should do everything to educate ourselves about its details and vote to have our respective Parliaments and Congresses bar from passing it. I am saying this as both a New Zealander as well as an American. There is nothing wrong with normal bilateral trade negotiations. This agreement is an unwarranted, brazen leap beyond trade tariffs and such into the world of copyright extensions for pharmaceutical companies, internet rights, and far too many other intrusive excursions into a country's own domestic rights. We've smelled this before in other forms and it stinks.
