Tonight's Dad Facts:
Tonight you are playing Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado …just west of Denver, Colorado. We both know Red Rocks is a cool place. However, did you know that “Widespread Panic” has sold out Red Rocks 42 times!
Now, on to Denver. Denver was originally known as Montana City. It was basically a mining town supporting the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. Since then, Denver’s been all about growth. It’s interesting to note that the first structure ever built in Denver was a saloon. Which makes sense, because today, more beers are brewed in Denver than any city in the US. Denver also holds the distinction for being the first city in America to host a Led Zeppelin Official concert (December, 1968). And for what it’s worth, Denver know has more marijuana stores than Starbucks stores!
One more thing unrelated to Denver. A friend of mine shared a fact that you may be interested in. The phrase, “A Shot of Whiskey” actually came from the old west (think Denver) In the old west a .45 cartridge for a six-gun cost 12 cents, so did a glass of whiskey. If a cowhand was low on cash he would often give the bartender a cartridge in exchange for a drink. This became known as a "shot" of whiskey.
