Happy Advent to you all- as promised an update on the the Gerry Rafferty album which he was working on before he died. Myself and engineer Andy Patterson have over the course of the last year been going through vast amounts of demos, multiple recordings and various sessions trying to sift through and establish a coherent track list. Some songs were more complete than others, as in we had a good strong vocal with finished lyrics, others less so. Gerry often left finishing his lyrics to the end and would improvise on demo recordings with the correct phrasing and rhythm. Many of even his improvised lyrics are pretty good as he'd often have a turn of phrase or particular line in mind when he came up with the melody.
So a lot of digging around to find the best bits from years of recordings. This has frequently been a joy but also emotionally challenging in the process of grieving his passing- I've had to lay it down and return back to it when able, so if it's taking longer than I'd like then I apologise, it's not a process that can be rushed. I can say that we now have a complete set of new songs in place and will begin to record various instrumental parts in the new year. The aim has been to showcase his voice and natural ability and pull back the production side a bit with more paired down, stripped back arrangements. It will be released in 2015 and hopefully will not disappoint. Thank you all for your patience. It's been a real labour of love.
