• Frenzy: 50 years of Normie RoweWarner News

This year marks 50 years since Normie Rowe’s first single, “It Ain’t Necessarily So”. To celebrate, Festival Records - who released Normie’s original run of hits on their Sunshine label back in the ‘60s - is releasing a special new Normie Rowe collection, "Frenzy: The 50th Anniversary Collection", on June 5.

“Frenzy!” focuses on Normie’s early years, when he was the subject of an explosion of popularity & media attention that had not previously been experienced by an Australian artist. Not even the big dreaming boy from Northcote could have imagined what would happen...

From '65 to '68, Normie released 11 Top 10 singles, 13 EPs & 5 albums. He toured relentlessly in Oz & the UK. Radio, TV, newspapers & magazines couldn't get enough of his exploits on & off stage...& that's where “frenzy” sums up the turbulance during this time; teen hysteria, the power of pop music & the social changes that were taking place around the world. In the telling of this story, one thing is often overlooked, & that is the sheer quality of the records Normie made during this period.

Fans will be thrilled to hear that Normie and his Playboys will perform a series of shows around the country, starting in Melbourne in June at the Memo Music Hall, a new venue situated in the old St Kilda RSL. 50 years ago the room at Memo was a recording studio, and it was in this very room that Normie recorded “It Ain’t Necessarily So”... Launch events in other states will be announced shortly.

Delta Rae perform Under The BridgeWarner News

A bit over a week ago we were lucky enough to have the incredible band, Delta Rae, here in Australia to perform at Bluesfest Byron Bay.

While they were in Sydney, we took them to a spot you might recognise to record a stripped back version of song 'Bottom Of The River'

As TIME mag says, "In theory, Delta Rae’s music is Americana folk rock. In practice, it’s a bit more complicated…bluesy & soulful, sometimes gentle & melodic…”

Have a listen to their Under The Bridge session here.
