October 28th sees the release of the historic Cold Chisel ‘Last Stand’ concerts on DVD, recorded and filmed at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in December 1983, which also includes great interview footage with all band members and Peter Garrett. The DVD will be available in widescreen and has been remastered by Rick Will with additional bonus material that includes backstage and sound check footage plus vox pops from the various punters outside the venue - a great look at the fabulous fashions of the 80’s! The bonus material also includes performances of Only One and River Deep Mountain High featuring Rene Geyer and Venetta Fields, which have never been seen before. The CD has also been remastered with new tracks added. ‘Last Stand’, the VHS, still stands as the highest selling video for an Australian Artist. Cold Chisel is one of the most successful bands in Australian rock history. Formed in 1973 in Adelaide, by 1979 they were the biggest live draw around Australia. Their popularity was vividly demonstrated when, on breaking up in 1983, their ‘Last Stand’ concerts played 26 shows, including five at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. The sold out tour took the band to New Zealand (4 dates), Newcastle (3 dates), Canberra, Brisbane (2 dates), Surfers Paradise (2 dates), Melbourne (4 dates), Perth, Adelaide (4 dates), Sydney Entertainment Centre (5 dates) and Wollongong. Since then Cold Chisel have gone on to sell over 3 million albums and CDs. The ‘Chisel’ Best Of Compilation is now the highest selling Australian compilation recording with sales exceeding one million units. Following the 1983 break-up of the band, the individual members went on to various, and in some cases, spectacular solo success. In 1998 the band returned to the arena with a # 1, multi platinum album "The Last Wave of Summer" and a national sell out concert tour that played to over 150,000 people. In April 2003, the band announced a series of dates in the round under the banner ‘Ringside’. The concert event proved a huge success with four Sydney dates and warm up shows in Orange and Newcastle selling out. The event was recorded live and the ‘Ringside’ album and DVD was released through Warner Music in November 2003. With the overwhelming demand and success of the Ringside concept, Cold Chisel toured the event nationally. The DVD went on to sell Double Platinum. The ‘Last Stand’ DVD and accompanying CD will be released through Warner Music on October 28th, 2005. A great moment in Australian rock. |
