Gabriella Cilmi has today received six ARIA Award nominations, including Best Female Artist and Single of the Year, making her the most nominated artist for the 2008 Awards.

Cilmi is also a contender for Breakthrough Artist – Album; Breakthrough Artist – Single; Best Pop Release and Highest Selling Single.

“It’s sweet as, to be nominated. Looking forward to getting home!” Cilmi said today from France.

She is currently on a promotional tour which includes a performance on Tara Tata (French equivalent of Later with Jools Holland) with Metallica.

The nominations add to what has been an amazing year for Cilmi both in Australia and abroad after she stormed onto the scene in March.

In Australia, her debut album, Lessons to Be Learned, has achieved platinum sales and first single Sweet About Me has been one of the biggest hits of the year. By achieving the number one single spot Cilmi became the youngest solo artist ever to top the Motorola ARIA chart.

Lessons to Be Learned, has been on sale in the UK for over five months and is still in the Top 20 charts (currently sitting at 13). Sweet About Me has also entered the top 10 in ten countries including UK (6), Germany (2), Holland (3), Austria (3), Switzerland (3), Croatia (1), Norway (7), New Zealand (6) and Italy (9).

The 2008 Motorola ARIA Awards will be held at Acer Arena on Sunday 19 October. Cilmi will be returning home to perform at the Awards.

Cilmi will appear at Homebake on Saturday 6 December before heading to the US early next year after recently being signed to Universal Republic.
