HOMEBAKE 2006 -- It’s a massive ‘Party In The Park’!
Ladies and Gentlemen, it’s time to once again announce Australia’s biggest Antipodean all star festival event! With a touch of glamour, pizzazz and chutzpah - as well as a whole lot of the finest musical talent that Australia & New Zealand has to offer, we proudly present version number 12 of the biggest bake of them all, HOMEBAKE 06.
Having played host to a plethora of national and internationally famous local superstars, HOMEBAKE has matured to become one of Australia’s most important and respected festival events, and for this very reason, we are overwhelmingly grateful for the devoted support of the public, media & local industry alike. Each year, HOMEBAKE has focused on particular themes of style. Noting our themes are always based on the continued respect of our most gracious performers, we’ve decided that we really do want to celebrate in 2006. And for this very reason, we want you to put on your party shoes as we return under our 2006 banner, ‘Party In The Park’. Whilst we prepare to transform Sydney’s iconic Domain in to a block rockin’ show stoppin’ multi stage extravaganza of international standard, we can’t even begin to describe our collective excitement as we announce the very first batch of our musical megastars (including a few surprises sure to raise an eyebrow or ten). So, read on carefully and start preparing plans to join us as we once again pay homage to the success of our local entertainment industry.
And with great pleasure and excitement, what better way for us to show our respect than to present...
This legendary Newcastle trio last graced the HOMEBAKE stage way back in 1999 on the back of their ‘Neon Ballroom’ album. Who can forget those snapshots of Daniel Johns decked out in a purple mirrored suit which got beamed across the world in recognition of that very famous HOMEBAKE performance. Fast forward to 2006 and these kids that HOMEBAKE has witnessed grow to mature young adults return for a very special performance! Silverchair will launch their fifth studio album at HOMEBAKE 2006. The group has sold over six million albums and their most recent CD, 2002’s ‘Diorama’ – was both the fastest selling and the most critically acclaimed of their career to date in Australia. Silverchair’s as yet untitled disc is in the final stages of recording and they’re currently in Prague tracking some orchestral pieces on three songs. They will then head to Los Angeles to start mixing in a couple of weeks so you can expect their highly anticipated new album to land in stores right around HOMEBAKE, with a preceding single released over coming months to serve as a very welcome taster. Silverchair will be ready to knock your socks off with their new material along with crowd favorites when they take centre stage at HOMEBAKE this year!
Eskimo Joe raised the bar set by their 2004 double-platinum, ARIA Award-winning ‘A Song is a City’ album and they’ve proved their substance as major players in the Australian music scene yet again with their third album ‘Black Fingers, Red Wine’. Debuting at number one on the ARIA albums chart a few weeks back and staying there for three weeks straight (which is sure to be a record for an Australian act in 2006) this week the album has once again shot straight back to number one. The single of the same name also took out the number one spot on the ARIA digital singles chart. ‘Black Fingers, Red Wine’, is this WA trio’s first number one debut since they came on to the scene eight years ago and their new material soars with unashamed, unguarded personality not to mention great pop songs. We welcome Eskimo Joe to join in celebration of Australian music at this year’s HOMEBAKE Festival.
The shining star of his country’s much-celebrated local hip-hop scene, Scribe is a hero to the Polynesian & islander kids on the streets down under and proof is in the pudding with his highly acclaimed album ‘The Crusader’ now a certified platinum seller (over 100.000 copies) in Australia. Like Silverchair, Scribe is currently in the studio recording his new album which will see release in time for him to deliver his new hip-hop flavours at HOMEBAKE this year.
