Gnarls Barkley Makes chart history as the first act to top the singles chart on download sales only

UK act Gnarls Barkley have made music history this week with their debut single ‘Crazy’ topping the UK singles chart on downloads alone with over 31,000 sales.

The single, taken from the upcoming album ‘St. Elsewhere’ (to be released in Australia digitally May 6th and then CD on May 13th), is now poised to be one of the biggest hits of 2006.

Warner Bros. UK opted to make ‘Crazy’ available as a download three weeks ahead of its physical release due to phenomenal public demand following significant airplay.

Korda Marshall, Managing Director of Warner Bros. Records, commented, “This is a milestone for us, for the industry and for music lovers. That downloads alone can now propel an artist to number 1 reflects the way people are accessing music and embracing the immediacy and convenience of downloads. Consisting of former Goodie Mob member Cee-Lo and notorious Gorilliaz/’The Grey Album’ producer Danger Mouse, Gnarls Barkley are undoubtedly 2006’s hottest emerging outfit.
